Part of Compass Group UK & Ireland, the leading foodservice provider’s The !dea Works initiative won the Business Innovation Award. New for 2014, the Business Innovation category showcased the vast range of uniquely innovative products, services, technologies, customer offers and applications available across all sectors within the Scottish hospitality, catering and tourism industry, that have been implemented in the last two years.

By submitting their ideas online and then presenting their innovative concepts to a panel of senior decision makers within Compass, The !dea Works has given small and medium enterprises in Scotland a huge opportunity to open up their business to a wider market. At the same time it also enables the leading foodservice provider to find the best new products for its consumers.

In another new category for 2014, Compass’ Mandy Gray won the Employee of the Year Award. Open to employees of all organisations working in Scottish catering, hospitality and tourism, this award recognised the team member who has consistently risen above and beyond their usual remit in their daily routine over the last 12 months.

Support Services Manager Mandy Gray is responsible for delivering catering, cleaning and other support services to the Edinburgh Garrison Command at Edinburgh Castle. As well as her daily tasks, Mandy oversees more than 350 VIP functions at the castle each year, including looking after 8,000 guests every night during the summer when the castle hosts The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo and has recently started a CIPD course in HR management.

Wilson Barrie, Business Development Director and Chair of Compass in Scotland, said: “Winning these awards is a brilliant showcase for Compass in Scotland. The Business Innovation Award demonstrates our dynamic approach to business and, even better, that we actually put these ideas into action and they work.

“The Employee of the Year Award celebrates our great people, and our ability to deliver great service and great results for our customers and clients. I’m really proud of our team winning two awards, this is a wonderful achievement.”
